Functional Medicine in Columbus, Ohio
Being told your results are normal while you still feel unwell is where most of our patients start. Functional medicine looks for the cause instead of managing the symptom, and it begins with testing that goes further than a routine panel.

What functional medicine means here
Conventional care is built to name a condition and match it to a treatment. Functional medicine asks a different question: why is this happening in the first place? At Elements of Health that question is answered with testing, not assumptions. As Dr. Jones puts it, "I won't guess about your health."
Consultations are virtual or by phone, so you can work with Dr. Jones from Columbus or anywhere else in the United States.
What patients come to us with
Fatigue that rest does not fix
Digestive problems, bloating and food reactions
Hormone changes, menopause symptoms and thyroid concerns
Brain fog and trouble concentrating
Weight that will not respond to diet or exercise
Recurring infections and low immune resilience
Sleep that breaks through the night
Being told repeatedly that test results are normal
These rarely travel alone. Digestive health, hormone balance, adrenal function and inflammation are connected, which is why treating them one symptom at a time so often fails.
How we find the root cause
Dr. Jones uses tests that are not part of routine general medicine. Which ones apply depends on your symptoms and goals. You can see the full range of diagnostic testing available.
Comprehensive blood panel
Establishes a baseline of biomarkers and reveals thyroid activity, blood sugar, immune function and vitamin and mineral levels. It is the most efficient and affordable general screening available.
Saliva testing
Measures hormone levels for women and men, adrenal function and gastrointestinal function. Central to our work on menopause and hormone support.
Stool testing
Uncovers parasites, yeast, bacteria, fungi, enzyme counts, inflammation levels and food allergies. The foundation of gut health testing.
Hair analysis
Reveals heavy metal toxins and mineral imbalances that blood work alone can miss.
Electro Dermal Screening
Also called Biomeridian testing, a noninvasive method that assesses the energy meridians of the body and gives insight into organs and glands including the adrenals, immune system and digestive system. Once imbalances are identified, we test which nutritional supports work best for your body.
Why "normal" results may not mean healthy
Most lab reports compare your results against a "normal range." If you fall inside it, you are usually told you are normal, which is easily confused with being healthy.
Normal ranges are calculated by each individual laboratory, not a central agency, using roughly 100 to 200 people who had testing done recently. Most of those people were being tested precisely because they already had a health problem. Their results are averaged, and the range extends two standard deviations either side.
So a normal result means only that you are not yet as unwell as the people used to build the range. This is the single most common reason patients arrive here after being told nothing is wrong.
Your personalized plan
When all results are in, Dr. Jones prepares a personalized report with a hard copy of every result, an explanation of what each means, and a complete plan of the nutrients, vitamins, dietary changes and lifestyle adjustments needed to move forward. It is built through the Science Based Nutrition program and includes:
Supplement recommendations and dosages specific to your findings, age, sex and weight
Correlation of medication side effects with your test findings
Dietary recommendations, including meal recipes
Color coded comparison of current and previous results on the same page
Where cognitive symptoms are part of the picture, cognitive testing through Cambridge Brain Sciences adds an objective measure to track alongside everything else.
From there you have ongoing support. A health coach works alongside you, and Healthie gives you 24/7 access and unlimited messaging with your doctor between appointments.

What is the difference between functional medicine and conventional care?
Conventional care generally names a condition and matches it to a treatment. Functional medicine looks for what is causing the condition, using testing to identify imbalances before deciding on a plan. The two are not opposed and many patients use both.
Do you see patients in Columbus, Ohio?
Elements of Health is based in Columbus and serves patients across the United States through virtual and phone consultations. You do not need to travel for an appointment or for testing.
What testing is involved?
Depending on your symptoms, testing may include a comprehensive blood panel, saliva testing for hormones and adrenal function, stool testing, hair analysis for heavy metals and minerals, and Electro Dermal Screening.
My results came back normal but I still feel unwell. Why?
Normal ranges are calculated by each laboratory from roughly 100 to 200 people who were being tested because they already had a health concern. A normal result means you are not yet as unwell as that group. It does not mean your levels are optimal for you.
What do I receive after testing?
A personalized report with every result, an explanation of what each means, and a complete plan covering nutrients, supplements with specific dosages, dietary recommendations with recipes, and lifestyle changes. You review it together and keep a copy.
