Men's Hormone Health and Energy

Most men do not arrive with one clear problem. They arrive with energy that fades by mid afternoon, weight that settled around the middle, sleep that stopped being restorative, and bloodwork that came back normal.

Saliva and blood testing for men covering testosterone, thyroid, adrenal function and nutrient status, with a personalized plan from Dr. Kathleen Jones.

What men usually come in with

Rarely one clean symptom. Usually several that have crept in over a few years and been put down to age, work or stress:

  • Energy that drops off through the afternoon and never fully returns

  • Strength and muscle that are harder to hold on to

  • Weight settling around the middle despite no change in habits

  • Sleep that is lighter and less restorative

  • Motivation and drive noticeably flatter than they used to be

  • Brain fog and slower recall

  • Low mood or a shorter fuse

  • Reduced libido

Any one of these can have several causes. Testosterone, thyroid, adrenal function, blood sugar and nutrient status all sit behind this list, and they influence each other. That is why testing comes before conclusions. As Dr. Jones puts it, "I won't guess about your health."

Testing that looks at more than one hormone

A single testosterone number rarely explains the whole picture. What matters is how it sits alongside adrenal function, thyroid activity and nutrient status.

  • Saliva testing. Measures hormones for men, along with adrenal function and gastrointestinal function. Adrenal output and sex hormones pull on each other, so seeing them together explains far more than either alone.

  • Comprehensive blood panel. Thyroid activity, blood sugar, immune function, and vitamin and mineral levels. Low thyroid produces many of the same symptoms as low testosterone and is regularly missed.

  • Hair analysis. Heavy metal toxins and mineral imbalances that blood work alone can miss.

  • Electro Dermal Screening. A noninvasive scan giving insight into the adrenals, immune system and digestive system.

Samples are collected at home and blood work is done at a lab near you. See the full range of diagnostic testing for detail on each, or how virtual care works if you are outside Columbus.

Why "normal" results may not mean healthy

This is where most men get stuck. Bloodwork comes back inside the range, the conversation ends, and nothing changes.

Normal ranges are calculated by each individual laboratory, not a central agency, using roughly 100 to 200 people who had testing done recently. Most of those people were being tested precisely because they already had a health problem. Their results are averaged, and the range extends two standard deviations either side.

So a normal result means only that you are not yet as unwell as the people used to build the range. For hormones in particular, a level can sit inside the range and still be nowhere near where you function best.

What happens after testing

When results are in, Dr. Jones prepares a personalized report with every result, an explanation of what each one means, and a complete plan. It is built through the Science Based Nutrition program and includes:

  • Supplement recommendations and dosages specific to your findings, age, sex and weight

  • Correlation of medication side effects with your test findings

  • Dietary recommendations, including meal recipes

  • Color coded comparison of current and previous results on the same page

Retesting later shows change side by side against your baseline, so progress is measured rather than assumed.

Support continues between appointments. A health coach works alongside you, and Healthie gives you 24/7 access and unlimited messaging with your doctor.

Getting started

  • Book a consultation. Virtual and phone appointments, Monday to Friday.

  • Complete your testing. Saliva and hair at home, blood work at a lab near you.

  • Review your results together. With a written plan you keep.

  • Measure the change. Retesting compares progress against your baseline.

What does men's hormone testing actually measure?

Saliva testing measures hormone levels for men along with adrenal function. A comprehensive blood panel adds thyroid activity, blood sugar, immune markers and vitamin and mineral status. Together they show whether symptoms are driven by sex hormones, the thyroid, the adrenals, or a combination.

My testosterone came back normal. Why do I still feel flat?

Normal ranges are built from roughly 100 to 200 people who were being tested because they already had a health concern. A normal result means you are not yet as unwell as that group. It does not mean the level is optimal for you, and it says nothing about thyroid, adrenal function or nutrient status.

Why saliva rather than blood for hormones?

Saliva testing shows adrenal function alongside sex hormones, which matters because the two influence each other. Blood work is still used, for thyroid, blood sugar and nutrient levels, so the two are usually run together.

Do I have to travel for the testing?

No. Saliva and hair samples are collected at home and posted to the lab. Blood and urine work is completed at a draw centre near you. Consultations are virtual or by phone.

Is this a replacement for testosterone replacement therapy?

It is a different starting point. The aim is to identify what is driving your symptoms across hormones, thyroid, adrenals and nutrient status before deciding on any course of action, so that decisions are based on your full picture rather than a single number.

How long before I notice a difference?

It varies with what testing reveals and how long it has been going on. Retesting is the honest measure: results are compared side by side against your baseline rather than relying on how you feel on a given week.
